Favourite websites, podcasts or blogs

This topic from Long and Short Reviews was a tricky one. I don’t listen to any podcasts and don’t follow a lot of blogs. I do, however, have a number of favourite websites, so I have those to fall back on.

Until fairly recently my favourite website of all time was Etiquette Hell, which had a blog section to post etiquette fails and also a forum to discuss everyone’s experiences. Last year the forum closed; I still read the blogs, but my primary attention has migrated to Bad Manners And Brimstone, a newly created forum for people who still want to discuss etiquette questions and bemoan stories of rudeness in today’s society. For anyone who has been pissed off by someone yelling on their phone behind them on the bus, or who has witnessed an appallingly rude customer swearing at a hapless shop clerk, this is the place for you.

Similar to this is Customers Suck, a forum primarily for customer service workers who have to deal with rude people every day. Despite the title, it’s not a place for people to brag about how badly they treat their customers – people who try that get short shrift. It is, however, a haven for people who have been given abuse by someone who wanted the sale price for a shirt that wasn’t in the sale.

My other favourite for relaxation is, unsurprisingly, Facebook, but primarily for two games that I love to play. Criminal Case is a found-objects game with a plotline where you are a detective solving murders and uncovering conspiracies along the way. I could play that all day, as I could SongPop, a game of guessing the songs and artists from brief clips.

So what are your favourites?

  1. When I was working at the library, we had a blog similar to "Customers Suck" but for libarians. It was always refreshing to see that we didn't have a market on weird patrons.. lol. My post is here.

    1. I think everywhere has weird patrons. I've worked plenty of customer-facing roles and had enough stories to fill a book.

  2. Sharing "Customers Suck" with my daughter who has worked in retail and now waits tables. She will appreciate it very, very much! I've never heard of those sites, but I'm intrigued by the etiquette ones because OMG people are unbelievably rude and selfish these days!!

    1. Yes, the etiquette ones have moved away from the more traditional "which fork to use" type of etiquette and are now on day-to-day life, which is full of rudeness and arrogance from people.

  3. I forgot all about facebook as a website I visit. I use it for messenger. I'd have to add them as well as twitter and google. I've read the Customers Suck blog and it's been worth the visit. Anyone who works in customer service or with people know exactly what we're all going through. Lol!
    Good post!

    1. I always like how Customers Suck doesn't tolerate people being jerks for the hell of it. Customers often suck, but there's still no excuse for rude staff.

  4. I've been a lurker at Etiquette Hell for years! Their new message boards don't seem to be quite as busy, but they're still filled with interesting discussions. I've learned a lot about etiquette from both the old and new boards.

    My post.

    1. No, they're not as busy, but there's still plenty of good reading. It was a shame the old forum closed the way it did.

  5. Customers Suck would have been great back when I worked retail. In a casino. On the Las Vegas Strip. LOL Man, people are WEIRD.

    1. Heh, you must have so many stories about that job. Do you think you'll ever blog about them?

    2. Now that would spawn some interesting stories, I'm sure.

  6. Don't think of Facebook as a blog but having very little family, I watch often to see new pics and new posts. I'm a pretty big cooking blog fan but it looks like there are some I should check out here.
