Welcome special guest author Lauren Hawkeye!

Lauren Hawkeye is joining me today as part of her Bewitching Book Tours promotional tour for her new release, "Take Me Down", Book One of her "Erotic Me" series.

I am a writer. I am also an optometric assistant, a hard-core knitter, a wife and mom to an eleven month old baby. Since said baby was born, the one thing that has really fallen by the wayside for me is recreational reading. I read my own work after writing it, and I read the work of my critique partners. But I so very rarely get to read for pleasure. To celebrate the release of Take Me Down this week, I downloaded several books onto my brand new iPad 2—Inside by my pal Brenda Novak, and The Challenge by the equally fantastic Megan Hart. I also used my author code to download my own copy of Take Me Down, mostly because it’s pretty and pink and I love looking at it.

Choosing which books to celebrate with was a tough call for me—my wish list is approximately a hundred books long. How to decide what to buy from the list that includes Charlaine Harris, Nalini Singh, Juliana Stone, Gena Showalter, Keri Arthur... it was difficult, to say the least!

This makes me wonder. Out of all of the books out there to be read, how do you decide which ones make the top of your list? And what are you reading now?

  1. I have a writers' group on Facebook--my goal is to read each of the published authors in that group, and then I write up a review and leave them feedback--my small contribution to them participating in the group. Right now, though, I'm also homeschooling my daughter...so we are reading Across Two Moons together. It's hard to read for pleasure at times too...this one is because I have to so I can grade her work!

  2. I have my normal to buy authors like Lora Leigh, Angela Knight, or Christine Feehan, but honestly since I own every book they've ever written, I have to say that it's the blurb and good excerpt that catches my attention. And there has to be an excerpt or I won't pick it up. I want a taste of what I'm gonna be reading to tempt me into reading it. Since I'm a book whore, I usually buy no less than 3 to 4 books at a time. Then it's the one that had the most tempting excerpt that I read first. For instance, I just bought several books I read about on the Back to Smut event and Coming Out of Her Shell's excerpt sent it to the top of my list. So far it's lived up it's teasing promise and I'm a little over half way through it. Ms Colbert definitely picked the right excerpt to tease me into not only buying her book but making it the first book I read.

  3. I don't have one particular way to choose my next read. I usually have at least 10 books in my pile. Sometimes it's a cover that I can't stop looking at or it's the next in a series I can't wait to know what happens. Sometimes it is a new author that I have been told to read and I want to see if I like it. Other times I let someone else just grab one from the pile because I can't decide. I figure if that is the hardest part of my day...I'll take it. :-) I very rarely come across a book I don't like at all and those I tend to give a chance to and if it's really bad I'll put it down and not finish it. There aren't many of those in all my years of reading there have been less than 10. I feel bad not finishing it. But Hot Covers and favorite authors usually get to the top of the list fastest.
    Thanks,

  4. This is a great question... all I can say is that it depends, lol. I really don't have a system to go through my TBR pile, otherwise it wouldn't be growing out of bounds. But I do tend to read according to my reading 'mood'. Sometimes, an anticipated release would make the top and other times, if I choose from my TBR pile, I may just go with the cover that catches my eye. Since I do want to read all of the books that made it into that pile some time in the future anyway, I know that I liked the blurb or premise enough to want to read it.

Thanks for the giveaway! I'd love to read this :)

  5. Since I received my Kindle, I tend to read the teaser for a book or an excerpt. If it sounds interesting I go ahead and order it. Right now I'm reading Sunset Knight by Sami Lee. I just finished her book Chasing Sunset, which precedes this book. I like to read serial books. I enjoy staying with similar characters.

  6. Hey Lauren,
Great post. Since receiving my Kindle from Santa - love that guy - I've been reading mostly e-books. I choose my books mainly from reading samples. I choose my samples from books by fave authors, friends' recommendations and books by friends. I like reading the reviews at amazon, sometimes that helps me decide. Print books, it's cover and blurb all the way.

Looking forward to Take Me Down!
