I did like this one when it came up on Long and Short Reviews's list, because I like watching lyric videos on YouTube (if I want to listen to a song I don't want any background weirdery from the official video, so lyric videos are easier) and have often been surprised at what people have got away with.
The first one that startled me was the Bee Gees' "You Win Again".
"I'm going to hit you from all sides, lay your fortress open wide
Nobody stops this body from taking you."
OK, there are a couple of ways that could be taken, but it sounded very dodgy from my perspective.
And then we have "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes". Not for the same reason, of course.
"Now laughing friends deride tears I cannot hide..."
Um, get some new friends. Seriously.
There are a couple more I can think of, but I think "Young Girl" and "My Sharona" are a bit too obvious. :)
I'm interested to see what other people will come up with!
Yeah, that’s a dodgy line for sure!
ReplyDeleteI quite liked that song as well, until I heard that line.
Delete"Now laughing friends deride tears I cannot hide..." - proving that people have been putting up with mean "friends" forever.
ReplyDeleteI had completely forgotten "Young Girl" - wow, just wow that was ever considered appropriate.
Yes, "Young Girl" is definitely dodgy.
DeleteOh, these are great choices. I almost chose "Christine Sixteen" by KISS, but thought that might be too creepy.

Yes, having looked at the lyrics, that one is a bit creepy.
DeleteI think "Young Girl" may have set some sort of all-time record for ickiness. You have a point about "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes." Then in my specialty, old traditional songs, our retired State song (in Virginia) used to offer multiple cringe factors...
