3 things I wish more books talked about

What do I wish more books talked about? And do we mean fiction, non-fiction or both? I’ve taken this to mean both, and have three specific things I would love to read more about.

·         Chronic pain. I have only read one heroine who suffered from chronic pain, and I wrote her. As a chronic pain sufferer myself this is something that I think should be brought more to the forefront – many people deal with it every day without those around them knowing about it.

·         Horror films. This one is in a non-fiction sense. I’m currently reading Men, Women and Chain Saws, a take on women in horror, and was quite surprised at how few books I could find that dealt with horror as a genre.

·         Different supernatural beings. I read a lot of vampire/shifter novels and have seen angels and fairies, but I would love to see writers go further afield with supernatural creatures.

So what would you like to see in books?

  2. amen on the chronic pain thing ... though I'm not sure how great a book it would make, lol. "I'm sorry honey, I'm not in the mood. Every joint in my body feels like burning lava."

Re: horror -- I've found quite a few small press books that are really quite good. I hope you're able to fill your TBR list!

    1. It's something a lot of people don't want to think about, but it needs mentioning I think.

  4. That made me laugh. "Every joint in my body feels like burning lava." Can you imagine the scene where he asks "What's that smell? Tiger Balm?" If he rubs up against that he'd get some real tingly feeling. That actually might be funny to read. I have rheumatoid and I read to escape. Not sure I want to read about chronic pain when I'm trying to forget it.

    1. Mine is caused by scoliosis and nobody has ever heard of it, so I'd love it if it appeared in books. Sorry to hear about yours.

  5. Good post. Women are quite prominent in horror films and tend to be the last girl standing. And since my tot gets into horror, I get what you mean. I've had a hard time finding him books about the horror genre that aren't just fan books or picture ones.

  6. All excellent suggestions. And as far as the Other Supernatural Creatures go, I'd also love to see some where being supernatural isn't just a goth version of having superpowers. Like, "This is my boyfriend Jim. He's completely ordinary except that he turns into a very large catfish when completely submerged in water. This makes hot tubs somewhat awkward."
